By Air – The Fastest & Easiest Way

Koh Samui Airport (USM) is a privately owned airport operated by Bangkok Airways and is located just 10 -15 minutes from Chaweng.

  • From Bangkok: Direct flights with Bangkok Airways (frequent daily departures).

  • From Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya: Also served by direct Bangkok Airways flights.

  • International flights: Seasonal direct connections from Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur.

Tip: Flights to Samui can be more expensive than flights to nearby Surat Thani or Nakhon Si Thammarat airports - see below for budget options!


By Train + Ferry – Scenic & Budget-Friendly

From Bangkok, you can take a sleeper train to Surat Thani Railway Station, then hop on a bus and ferry combo to Koh Samui.

  • Book a joint train + ferry ticket with companies like Lomprayah or Phantip Travel for smooth transfer.

  • Travel time: Around 10–12 hours (overnight option available).

  • Great for those who want to save money and skip a night of hotel accommodation.


By Bus + Ferry – Best for Backpackers

Several companies offer bus + ferry combo tickets from Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket, and other major cities to Koh Samui.

  • Direct service with Lomprayah.

  • Travel time: Approx. 10–12 hours from Bangkok.

  • Budget-friendly and simple, buses drop you off at the ferry terminal.


By Ferry – Island Hopping Access

There are three main ferry piers on the mainland serving Koh Samui:

  • Donsak Pier (Surat Thani) – Raja Ferry, Seatran Ferry

  • Tapee Pier (Surat Thani city) – Night boats (more basic)

  • Chumphon Pier – Lomprayah High-Speed Catamaran (connects Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, and Koh Samui)

If you're already on nearby islands like Koh Phangan or Koh Tao, there are daily ferries between all three.
